FAQs
Q: What’s with the “Alt”?
A: “Alt” or “Alternative” is a word that classical musicians use to refer to music that isn’t classical. It’s kind of a broad umbrella term for folk/world, pop/rock, jazz/blues, etc. Because it doesn’t specify any particular style other than “not classical art music,” we figured, hey – let’s use it!
Q: I’d love to use these books in my school – do you offer bulk rates?
A: Sure! Just contact us with what you need.
Q: I run a music nonprofit – do you ever donate materials or scholarship funds?
A: Heck yes! Check out our AltStrings Gives Back section on our about page. Contact us here to tell us more about your project!
Q: I’m not a classical player or a beginning fiddler either – is the AltStrings Fiddle Method for me?
A: Many of our method book students are actually intermediate players! There’s a lot in there for all levels, even advanced players who want to learn about ornamentation, chopping, chord playing and accompaniment techniques.
Q: Can I use the free YouTube video course instead of a teacher?
A: While we will always recommend that you have a teacher, if budget or other goals don’t allow for this, it’s a great place to start! We have a lot of students who don’t take weekly lessons, who love the free course that accompanies our books. But you don’t have to take my word for it! #ReadingRainbow
